I’m probably way off the pace with this Alaska conflab, but it looks like a reshuffling of the cards in a typical Trump deal.
The lore of deal-making – whatever piffle gets pushed out will be lauded as ‘great’, and the two leaders will come up smelling of ruses.
It’s a funny old world right now.
Nicking crusties for stating their support for spray-can bandits seems disproportionate when the Leader of the Free World snags a state visit after jovially agreeing a meet-up with another head honcho with meaty ICC arrest warrants on his head.
Notwithstanding the strength of the respective cases or moral arguments, the UK establishment is really humming of the dirty old brown.
The rule of law gets wheeled out only for successful weaponisaion. Otherwise, it’s the rule of lore.
And we’ve not even got on to Gaza and all that caper. It’s already gasting my flabber, but words in opposition to genocide are now held to be graver than the physical eradication of a whole population.
We shouldn’t be too shocked.
This is after all the regime of a human rights lawyer who loves punching down, so we are currently awash with contradictions. And labouring under this same ‘leader’ who has zero leverage on the world stage.
Whatever happens, Ukraine is toast.
